We went in for our first pediatrician appointment on Thursday, November 13th and found out that Brady had jaundice and was dehydrated. Jaundice is very common in premie babies and we were starting to notice that he was turning a bit yellow. We were a bit shocekd that he was down to 5lbs 7oz which was too much weight to lose as a newborn. Doctors really are only comfortable with babies losing about 5% of their birth weight. We ended up going to the lab where they performed a blood test to check the bilirubin to determine the severity of the jaundice. As expected the test came back too high and Brady needed to be readmitted to the hospital. We checked back in later that day, where Brady would have to spend some time in the "tanning bed". He really didn't seem to mind it since it's nice and cozy... not to mention the shades were pretty cool. His bilirubin score wasn't extremely high, so the doctors were confident that our stay wouldn't be too long... and they were right. We were released after his bilirubin came down on Friday the 14th around noon.
